Pack 29 Blue and Gold Dinner
Pack 29 Blue and Gold Dinner
was held on February 23, 2002 at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church. The
program included dinner, advancements, recognition, Arrow of Light Ceremony,
Webelos II graduation, and induction of new Cubmaster.
Congratulations to Joey Dise, Curtis Ramsey, Brock Sumner and Alan Washburn
who received their Arrow of Light and graduated into Boy Scouts. Best of luck to
outgoing Cubmaster Terri Washburn (who remains as Pack Trainer and Webmaster),
Webelos Den Leader Eric Sumner and Committee Member Brian Miller. See the 4th of
July issue of the Hockessin Community News for an article on these 4 former Cub
Scouts.
District
Award of Merit awarded to our former Cubmaster!
Congratulations to Mrs. Terri Washburn, our former Cubmaster who received the
District Award of Merit. Also congratulations to the other recipients: Mrs.
Cheryl Weichsel, Unit Commissioner and Committee Chair of Pack 160, Melanie
Jones, Cub Scout Roundtable Commissioner and Willard Barrowclough, Assistant
Scoutmaster of Troop 61. Click on the knot for a copy of the award booklet.
Pictured above from top left going clockwise, Will Barrowclough, Melanie
Jones, Cheryl Weichsel and Terri Washburn.
All four of these district award of merit recipients have been involved with
Cub Scout Day Camps and Camporees. Many of you may recognize Mrs. Weichsel as
she and Mrs. Washburn are often together planning something - they run Cub Scout
Day Camp for Freedom Trail District along with running many of the Cuborees and
Webelos Woods. Those who went to Webelos Woods in October of 2001 will recognize
Mr. Barrowclough - he proposed to his fiancé at the conclusion of the
Camporee/Webelos Woods.
The District Award of Merit is a Council Award presented by Districts or the
Exploring division. The award is available to any registered Scouter who renders
service of an outstanding nature on the District level. It is made annually on
the basis of one award for each 25 units, or fraction thereof, registered on
December 31, though it is not necessary to present all of these each year.
A nominee must be a registered Scouter who has rendered noteworthy service to
youth. The nature and value of “noteworthy service to youth” may consist of
a single plan or decisions that contributed vitally to the lives of large
numbers of youth, or it may have been given to a small group over an extended
time. He or she should have contributed some type of service to youth outside of
Scouting as well.
Consideration is given to the nominee’s position and the corresponding
opportunity to render outstanding service beyond the expectation of duty.
The nomination is always confidential and every effort is made to surprise
the recipient at the time of the annual District recognition event.

Summer
Time for Pack 29
Pack 29 has lots of fun events planned for the summer of 2002! We are working
toward earning another Summertime Pack Award. Those scouts who attend at least 3
events this summer will earn a Summertime Award pin (earned once during Cub
Scouts) and a certificate.
In June, we will go fishing at Carrousel Park and be attending Freedom
Trail District's Cub Scout Day Camp. In July, we will be marching in the
Hockessin 4th of July Parade. In August we'll be going to the sleepover at the
Blue Rocks game. The Webelos will be going to Resident camp this summer too.
For more information and a copy of the sign up sheet, see the April 2002
newsletter.
